Parents@Work was born in 2013 to specifically support corporate Australia to improve work-life outcomes for parents - both men and women. Since then, we’ve worked with a range of organisations to create flexible, family friendly workplaces. These organisations report an increase in staff retention, access to a wider pool of talent, and increased understanding of their legal obligations.
We have worked with some of Australia’s most recognisable brands such as Qantas and Westpac, to enterprises from the legal and financial sectors such as Peoplebank and King & Wood Mallesons.
"Thank you for participating in the 2013 Qantas HR Development Conference. We thoroughly appreciated your willingness to share your insights and expertise with us to support the ongoing professional development of our HR community. You touched on some interesting topics and I know the team appreciated the opportunity to learn something new. Everyone I have spoken with has mentioned how much they enjoyed your presentation and were energised about how to apply these new ideas."

Supporting and promoting career + family is a subject matter very close to my heart. I am 43 and have 6 children. My oldest is 16 and my youngest is 2 ½. I work 4 days a week as a paralegal in Compliance Legal & Secretariat. Currently in my 5th year of law school. The Westpac Study Assistance programme supports my studies.
I was a stay at home mother for 8 years. When I returned to the workforce 6 years ago, I started over in a new career with the Westpac Group. Not long after I returned from my maternity leave with Lily (my youngest), I participated in the Parents@work seminar. I have always been open to learning and knew that I would benefit from attending the Parents@work seminar:
- The seminar was delivered the experts in the field of career + family, who are passionate about their work;
- The information provided enhanced my knowledge about the options available to me, e.g. reinforcing my values and how they aligned to Westpac’s values, the right to request flexible work practices, how to negotiate terms around your return, performance management, managing your own career development, etc.;
- The content highlighted and reinforced the importance of self-care, owning your life choices, shared parenting;
- An opportunity to exchange stories with other like-minded working parents (mothers and fathers) and learning from their experiences;
- Option of personalised coaching.
I am grateful that I work for an organisation like Westpac that is genuinely supportive of working parents. It is a great idea to take advantage of the Parents@work seminar.

"I thought the format was excellent, low key, informal, open and friendly. I thought the insights from your panel were great. Hearing what others have gone through is very helpful and it opens your mind a bit more to possibilities and gives encouragement, knowing others feel the same as you. I loved meeting other people I have 'seen around' on the floor, and will definitely stay in touch with them."

Just wanted to share my feedback following the seminar yesterday. Even though I have been on maternity leave once before, I found it very helpful. The facilitators were great – they both speak from experience (personally and professionally) and it was helpful to be able to have a mini coaching group session with one of them at the end of the morning. It was also great to be able to walk away with a toolkit booklet.

"Thank you for the awesome program. It helped me realise other mums have the same challenges, helped me lift the constraints I have been placing on myself & gave me tools to make it happen such as using positive language when negotiating flexibility, getting mentors, taking action and networking. Thanks for the kick start."

"I attended the session yesterday and loved it! I have already recommended it to a few mums in my area, suggesting they go next time.

“Thanks for the Career after Kids Seminar. It was a fantastic day, the presenters were so professional, yet down to earth and I really felt I could open up about some of the issues I was facing. It was great to leave knowing that I can have greater confidence in my ability as a mum and a professional to get things working really well and that I can go after what I really want.”

“I wanted to express how much I appreciated the workshop this morning. There were so many insightful, relevant and practical suggestions. It felt like a very supportive environment and I think it really connected with what a lot of women are experiencing and feeling today around re-entering the work place. I’ve already highly recommended you to my mothers group and am super keen to get started on implementing some of the strategies we talked about.”

"Yesterday's CAK seminar was very empowering and great for motivation. Emma has a great presence and really talked through all the 'head space' questions / queries all returning to work mums ask themselves. She was able to put perspective to them as well as highlight some common pitfalls.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to attend. It is not necessarily something I would of thought to go to myself but since attending I would recommend to all my friends"

Coaching participant testimonials
“My coach made me feel very positive about the future, working for my company whilst being a mum.”
“It was great being able to talk to someone objective and be guided through how to achieve my career plan.”
“It provided clarity on my goals and helped me to formulate the next steps to take with my career, which up till then seemed hazy after returning from parental leave. It prompted me to reassess my 'network' of relationships and to focus on the skills and experience I could use to move my career forward. It was a valuable hour which I would firmly recommend.”
“It was great having the confidentiality to speak freely about issues that affect me and ways to overcome them, and think confidently about how to overcome issues that are holding me back from achieving and being successful as a working parent.”
“My coach assisted me asking the right question to get the result I wanted.”
“The coaching enabled me to think clearly about my return to work role and my career aspirations.”
“It was nice to speak to a non judgmental person who completely understands my situation. It was also nice to really express and work through work/life goals openly in a confidential environment.”
“I believe that the most beneficial aspect was that the coach was a 3rd party to Westpac as this allowed for frank and open conversations.”
“The ability to talk honestly about my situation with someone external was such a relief, and her experience helped me inform the possible frameworks I can look at.”
“My Coach completely 'gets' both the nature and structure of the organisation AND my circumstances as a working mother who hasn't lost her career aspirations but needs to be practical about how she achieves them. Emma has given me very practical guidance about how to approach setting goals, managing my personal development, and positioning my personal brand.”
